Charles Henwood's Wife, Queenie Disney, Possible Line Of WALT DISNEY of HOLLYWOOD

 Nadene Goldfoot

Charles Ernest Henwood   and Dorothy "Queenie"
Henwood nee Disney, born in England.  They were the parents of my husband, Dr. Wesley Charles Henwood, born in Sumner, Washington, USA, and  Charles and Dorothy are the grandparents of my 2 children and ggrandparents of my grandson.  They were both adventurers, eager to move on.    Charles had lived in Australia, and so had Dorothy, both separately.  They met and married in New Zealand and had 2 children.  Before they came to the USA, they lived in Vancouver, Canada.  They died in California. Dorothy-Queenie died at age 97 years 2 months 6 days, and Charles at 87 years, 7 months 4 days. They gave up a lot to the education of their son, Wes, who became a radiologist. Wes was a graduate of Reed College of Portland, Oregon, then went on to U of Washington Med School in Seattle,  He was also a Lt. Col in the National Guard.  He died of a heart attack in Honduras.  I remember that Dorothy recalled all the names of her brothers and sisters, and her parents' names.  I was amazed; my first meeting with someone with such a large family of 12 children.

My mother-in-law, Dorothy "Queenie Henwood nee Disney, told me that they were related to Walt Disney, creator of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, but I hadn't been able to go back far enough.  Today I accidently stumbled onto Walt's genealogy and sure enough, they both ended up with the same ancestor.  Queenie was right. That was my first try years ago.  Then, I realized I had been working with a brick wall error, so I haven't arrived at the end with the common ancestor yet.

My first mistake was in using James Alfred Cooper and his wife, instead of the correct Alfred James Disney.   Elizabeth Disney's first son was Alfred James Cooper -Disney born September 22, 1856. My error was in thinking he was also a Disney.  I thought his wife was Laura Victoria Whitehead, the correct mother of Queenie Disney.  Queenie Disney was their 10th child. I thought Queenie's Disney line had been adopted from this Elizabeth female, possibly.

Queenie Disney, wife of Charles Henwood, both of England, was from a family of 12 children, and she was number 10.  I was amazed.  She was born on December 25, 1899 in Essex, England.  Her father was Alfred James Cooper- Disney and mother was Laura Victoria Whitehead, both of Suffolk, England. Laura Whitehead was correctly her mother but  James Alfred Cooper was not her father. There was the Alfred James Disney that I hadn't found.  He was from Battisfort/Little Finborough, Suffolk, England.

Alfred James Disney was the son of James Alfred Cooper-I thought.  Here's where I was slightly confused.  He married Elizabeth  Disney, born 1833 in Suffolk, England. (As it turns out, Elizabeth'f father is our John Designy Disney.  It's from here that Queenie can claim the relation to Walt Disney, but first I need to verify that she was really a Disney, and so far, I haven't.   Here, all the children took the surname of their mother's maiden name, Disney. at least I think they did.  I was so wrong.

It all turned out to be my error.  Reworking the tree now in 2022, I have found an Alfred James Disney b: 1856 in Battisfort, Suffolk, England of the same age as the James Alfred Cooper. On the 1881 census, Laura was 18 and Alfred was 24.  They were already parents of Alice, age 2 and Frederick, 9 months.   I'm reworking, find that his father was John of Somerset, Chipstable, England and Mary Disney nee Curry of the same town, leading me down some other Disneys.  His father is also a John Disney and wife Elizabeth Paul, both of Somerset.  Now I've hit the brick wall in trying to find this John Disney's parents. I've found one more; Thomas.

This line needs to be going back also to Mechisodech Disnie,    I checked my 2 children who have had DNA testing at FTDNA.  They had DNA matches with many Cooper people but no Disney.  This makes me think that something was amiss with the Cooper causing them to adopt Disney as a surname. This was not the case.  As it turns out, because I had started the search many years ago, it's possible that Alfred James Disney hadn't been discovered yet by ancestry.com, or I just hadn't noticed it as yet in their files.  Instead, up came James Alfred Cooper, also of the same area in England.

Getting back to the wrong line I had chased, Elizabeth's father was William Disney, Sr. born in 1797 in Suffolk, England.  Her mother was Sarah Balls.  They had 8 children. Elizabeth was # 5.  William and his family were on the 1841 and 1851 English census.

William's father was Edward Disney III b: 1760 in Suffolk, England.  Here's another brick wall.  I had 3 Edward Disneys. This one was married to Sarah Douce.

Edward's father was also Edward Disney II b: 1717 in Suffolk, England.  He married Sarah Welham on June 3, 1746.  This had been an easier line to follow.  Too bad it's the wrong line.

Edward's father was another EDWARD DISNEY I, so I shall now label them as I, II and III. born 1689 in Suffolk, England.  He married  Elizabeth Lingwood.on March 4, 1714/15. Edward was their 3rd child.

Edward I's father was Mechisodech Disnie b: 1660 Suffolk, England  Both lines meet here with this person.  He was married to Mary Snowden.  Walt Disney also ended up with Mechisodech Disnie as well.  He had to have been the common ancestor of all the Disneys.  I've hit another brick wall.

The line goes from Alfred James Disney b: 1856 and wife Laura Victoria Whitehead back to John Disney 1827 and Mary Curry in Somerset Chipstable, England; to John Designy Disney 1799 and Elizabeth Paul, same place, to Thomas Designy  Disney 1771.  and Mary Vickery, both of Somerset.    Information has not been forthcoming.  This is the best I've been able to do far away from England, using the web.

Walt Elias Disney was born in 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. He married Lillian Marie Bounds on July 13, 1925.  They had 2 daughters, Diane and Sharon.  Walt died in Burbank, Hollywood, California.

Walt's father was Elias Charles Disney b: 1859 in Ontario, Canada.  He died in Hollywood, California.   He was married to Flora Call.

Elias's father was Kepple Elias Disney b: 1832 in Ireland.  He was married to Mary Jane Richardson.

Kepple's father was Arundel Elias Disney b: 1801 in Ireland.  He was married to Maria Swan.

Arundel's father was Kepple Disney b: 1776 in Ireland.  He was married to Frances Best.

Kepple's father was Robert Disney b: 1746 and mother was Mary Kepple.

Robert Disney's father was Richard Disney b: 1714.  He married Mary Bourdon.

Richard's father was EDWARD DISNEY, I b: 1689.  He was married to Elizabeth Lingwood.

EDWARD I's father was Mechisodech Disnie, born in 1660, in Suffolk, England.  He was married to Mary Snowden.

Some of the people I had wrongly discovered turned out to be on Walt Disney's line.
PS, Alfred James Disney was born on December 28, 1856
Alfred James Cooper was born on September 22, 1856.
Both were born in Battisfort, Suffolk, England.

My Henwood Grandson Ran a Marathon

 Nadene Goldfoot

My grandson, Dustin Maurice Henwood, ran the marathon in Portland, Oregon this past Sunday, October 3, 2021at the age of 36.  A marathon is 26 miles and he did it.  The 26 miles took him all over Portland, across the bridge, and into Reed College which was reported to me to look completely different nowdays.  His parents gave him a party that night that he was coaxed into attending.   Coming from me, his grandmother who struggles to finish one mile, and two miles this past summer almost killed me, comes from his father and mother who are both into walking many miles.  We're all very proud of Dustin.

He did it, and under the time of the marathon, too.

R1b Haplogroup May Have Jewish History

 Nadene Goldfoot

My son has tested as R-M269 in his Y haplogroup DNA, which means the male line going back from father to son. His test first at 12 alleles called it R1b1a2.  A more advanced test put him in the R-M269 category.   (Parent haplogroup: R-M269  Age: 25,000  Region: Western Europe; low frequencies in Turkey, and the Northern Fertile Crescent.)

At the 25 allele test level he matched people from Germany, Ireland but more from England and United Kingdom.  The Germany and Ireland must be from me.   FTDNA has a map and highlights the countries where genes come from  and the area from Turkey, Syria, Iraq to Iran were highlighted.  That could have been a Jewish area.   On my Origin map,  I have less than 2% Sephardi besides my Ashkenazi -Jewish genes as my map showed Spain and Portugal.

His is the Western Atlantic Model haplotype.  I've always wondered about the Henwood surname.  Hen and wood.  Hen just happens to be a family related to the Gracian family of Spain.  This surname, also using Gracia, Graciano, were a prominent Spanish family descended from Juan ben Barzilai.  The members lived chiefly at Baroeliona from the 13th through 16th centuries.  Most used the name of HEN.  Jewish Encyclopedia (JE) has 14 biographies.  So it's possible that the Spanish Inquisition of 1492 had something to do with Henwood.  It's either that or they raised chickens and used a wooden henhouse for them.  Being they have the R-M269 now makes me wonder with new information.

Hartley-Wintney is 8 miles east of Basingstoke in Hampshire, England

My husband had an IQ of 165 and was a Radiologist.  His parents were from England from a long line of Henwoods going back 14 generations to John Henwood born in 1538, Medstead, Hampshire,  England.  His name was listed as John Hynwod. My son's grandfather, was born at Winchfield, Hartley Wintney Row, County of Hampshire, EnglandWinchfield is a small village in the Hart District of Hampshire in the South-East of England. It is situated 1 mile (1.6 km) south-west of Hartley Wintney, 8 miles (13 km) east of Basingstoke, 2 miles (3.2 km) north-east of Odiham and 38 miles (61 km) west of London. It is connected to London Waterloo and Basingstoke by the South Western Main Line. Hampshire seems to be the common thread for this family.  His occupation was that of landscaping, a keeper of the grounds, knowing all about tending the plants.  After watching Downton Abbey, I can understand his interest.  My daughter has inherited it.

Because I am Jewish, I was interested in Rachel Unkefer's article on academia.edu titled, A New Narrative for Jewish R1b:  Jewish Men in the Most Common European Y-DNA haplogroup and The FTDNA Jewish R1b Project. Academia.edu is an American for-profit social networking website for academics. It began as a free and open repository of academic journal articles and registered a .edu domain name when this was not limited to educational institutions. The site was launched in September 2008.

Twenty years ago, a haplogroup estimate of R-M343 or R-M269 was assumed to be a marker of non-Jewish paternal ancestry. With new scientific tools, we now know that, instead, it might indicate descendance from any number of known Jewish lineages, small and large, with probable ancient origins in the Middle East, western Asia, Africa, or the Mediterranean. These geographic origins are all consistent with ancient Jewish history and migration, not indications of the large-scale introduction of recent northern or eastern European Y-DNA into the modern Jewish population.

His origins, half being from me, are as follows:  European Jewish, and this is from me according to what DNA companies know was 24%, and that was all Ashkenazi.  Western Europe was 72% whereas mine was 40, so he had 32% from his father.  Ireland was 8% whereas mine was 3%, so he may have had 5% from his father.  Central Europe was 8% and I had none.  England, Wales, and Scotland was 25% and I had none, which surprised me as my maternal grandfather was a Robinson with lines going to ancient Ireland and England, we thought.  My grandfather's tale was that his family had come from Wales.  At the very end of the report, my son had a section from the Middle East and he had Anatolia, Armenia & Mesopotamia listed with less than 1%, but I had nothing.  To have this even listed means there was a fraction of 1%, meaning something.

Hampshire, England  is a county in South East England on the English Channel coast. The county town is Winchester, England's former capital city. Its two largest cities, Southampton and Portsmouth, are administered separately as unitary authorities and the rest of the county is governed by a combination of Hampshire County Council and non-metropolitan borough councils.

First settled about 14,000 years ago, Hampshire's history dates to Roman Britain, when its chief town was Winchester, then known as Venta Belgarum.  Historically part of Hampshire, the Isle of Wight was made a separate ceremonial county and the towns of Bournemouth and Christchurch were administered as part of the ceremonial county of Dorset.

Medstead, East Hampshire, England:   The earliest evidence of settlement in the village comes from two Tumuli burial grounds which date from 1000 BCE.  Roman pottery and coins have also been found in the area.  A chapel in the village was first mentioned in the Domesday Survey of 1086 and was soon replaced by a Norman church.  The village has six Grade II listed buildings, including the 12th century St Andrew's Church and its war memorial, a farmhouse and a Victorian wheelhouse with a working donkey wheel.

It's also possible that Jews from Judah came to England to do trading in this early Roman period as Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE (AD).  Perhaps they came and settled down, finally immersing with the people there.

I would believe that the Hen family, if affected by the Spanish Inquisition of 1492, may have had to make the decision to convert to Christianity if they were Jewish.  Where could they go from Spain being Jews?  Nowhere, since Portugal also followed Spain's lead several years later.  So they may have wanted to go to England.  England had expulsed their Jews in 1290 and didn't allow them back in until 1655.  They had to enter as Marranos, hidden Jews that had been baptized but kept the Jewish faith anyway.  Then with marriage, the pretense finally wore off and they became Episcopalians in the end.  This is just my theory.

I don't know what his possible connection to Sephardim in Spain could be, maybe 100:1, but it sure is interesting.

It would be most helpful if other Henwoods have Yhaplogroup DNA tested to see what their line is.  Is it also R1b and have they tested further to become R-M269 ?

Update 6/25/15: R1a1R1b, and R1a1a or R1a-CTS6 is the Levite haplogroup.  Read www.levitedna.org. for more information. Jeff Wexler discovered this line of Ashkenazi Levites.  Analyses posted here. R1a1 is common among Ukrainians-thought to have originated there, Russians, and Serbs (Slavic speakers in Germany, as well as among Central Asian populations with admixture possible with Ukrainians, Poles or Russians.
R, R1, R2, R1a, R1b haplogroups are believed to have originated in NW Asia between 30,000 and 35,000 years ago.

Grandson Dr. Dustin Henwood, Veterinarian Opens Own Hospital

 Nadene Goldfoot

Grandson  Dr. Dustin Henwood with his own dog, Mogley

Dustin Henwood is my grandson, son of Stephen Henwood and Molly Zeitz.  His mother posted this to me which is his announcement:  Dustin is a veterinarian, a graduate of Oregon State University...

I have a big life update to share!
I’ve had to keep my intentions on the down-low as of late due to nondisclosure agreements I signed, but now I can finally say it….I am the proud owner of the veterinary clinic known as MetroVet in NE Portland (soon to be renamed Heart and Soul Animal Urgent Care). I plan to spend the next month operating under the former name until we can change over the branding, marketing, and signage. Our first day of business will be January 1st, 2021!!!
Being a practice owner and fostering a work culture of kindness and collaboration, one that prioritizes meaningful relationships and enriches one another’s lives, has been a longtime childhood dream. I never expected this chapter to begin this early in my career, but I’m now feeling more inspired than ever to make this vision a reality.
We will provide high-quality veterinary care for pets needing same-day attention for their illness or injury. The demand for veterinary urgent care in Portland has grown exponentially in recent years, leaving pet owners with only one option when their pet needs immediate care: to wait at an emergency hospital for many hours until their pet can be seen. Safety measures put into place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic have only exacerbated this problem, requiring pets and owners to sometimes wait up to 12 hours to be seen. Our urgent care clinic is here to provide the same exceptional care for these pets in a more timely manner.
I believe in challenging the status quo of veterinary medicine by prioritizing the importance of working as a cohesive, wholehearted team. We will provide ample opportunities for each employee’s professional growth and aspire to cultivate a work culture that promotes team building and creates meaningful connections.
If you enjoy the fast-paced nature of urgent care and emergency, and you want to be part of a radical work environment where inclusivity, collaboration, and kindness are the expectation, we would love to hear from you!

Ancient England in 886 Era of King Alfred the Great (The Last Kingdom on Netflix) based on true history

Nadene Goldfoot

British Isles in 886
Era of King Alfred the Great
This historical period is the theme of The Last Kingdom which has come out on Netflicks,  when the Vikings, called The DANES, tried to take over the island of England and our hero is of mixed blood, fathered by a Viking but happens to be a Saxon though his mother.  He is torn between being a part of one and not the other.   The story line goes faster than my mind can comprehend this fast moving and exciting drama.  Thus one needs some historic background to appreciate it because the places go by much different names than one sees in the British Isles today.

The Henwoods came from the South in the area labeled "Wessex and it's Dependencies"  which is Hampshire today.  At that time, the area was Anglo-Saxon.

I could only go back in finding family as far as the 1500s.
Descendants of John Henwood.  I had a researcher relative in England that had done all the work of finding these facts and she graciously shared them with me.  She had gone to cemeteries to find the information as well as other means.
