Charles Henwood's Wife, Queenie Disney, Possible Line Of WALT DISNEY of HOLLYWOOD

 Nadene Goldfoot

Charles Ernest Henwood   and Dorothy "Queenie"
Henwood nee Disney, born in England.  They were the parents of my husband, Dr. Wesley Charles Henwood, born in Sumner, Washington, USA, and  Charles and Dorothy are the grandparents of my 2 children and ggrandparents of my grandson.  They were both adventurers, eager to move on.    Charles had lived in Australia, and so had Dorothy, both separately.  They met and married in New Zealand and had 2 children.  Before they came to the USA, they lived in Vancouver, Canada.  They died in California. Dorothy-Queenie died at age 97 years 2 months 6 days, and Charles at 87 years, 7 months 4 days. They gave up a lot to the education of their son, Wes, who became a radiologist. Wes was a graduate of Reed College of Portland, Oregon, then went on to U of Washington Med School in Seattle,  He was also a Lt. Col in the National Guard.  He died of a heart attack in Honduras.  I remember that Dorothy recalled all the names of her brothers and sisters, and her parents' names.  I was amazed; my first meeting with someone with such a large family of 12 children.

My mother-in-law, Dorothy "Queenie Henwood nee Disney, told me that they were related to Walt Disney, creator of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, but I hadn't been able to go back far enough.  Today I accidently stumbled onto Walt's genealogy and sure enough, they both ended up with the same ancestor.  Queenie was right. That was my first try years ago.  Then, I realized I had been working with a brick wall error, so I haven't arrived at the end with the common ancestor yet.

My first mistake was in using James Alfred Cooper and his wife, instead of the correct Alfred James Disney.   Elizabeth Disney's first son was Alfred James Cooper -Disney born September 22, 1856. My error was in thinking he was also a Disney.  I thought his wife was Laura Victoria Whitehead, the correct mother of Queenie Disney.  Queenie Disney was their 10th child. I thought Queenie's Disney line had been adopted from this Elizabeth female, possibly.

Queenie Disney, wife of Charles Henwood, both of England, was from a family of 12 children, and she was number 10.  I was amazed.  She was born on December 25, 1899 in Essex, England.  Her father was Alfred James Cooper- Disney and mother was Laura Victoria Whitehead, both of Suffolk, England. Laura Whitehead was correctly her mother but  James Alfred Cooper was not her father. There was the Alfred James Disney that I hadn't found.  He was from Battisfort/Little Finborough, Suffolk, England.

Alfred James Disney was the son of James Alfred Cooper-I thought.  Here's where I was slightly confused.  He married Elizabeth  Disney, born 1833 in Suffolk, England. (As it turns out, Elizabeth'f father is our John Designy Disney.  It's from here that Queenie can claim the relation to Walt Disney, but first I need to verify that she was really a Disney, and so far, I haven't.   Here, all the children took the surname of their mother's maiden name, Disney. at least I think they did.  I was so wrong.

It all turned out to be my error.  Reworking the tree now in 2022, I have found an Alfred James Disney b: 1856 in Battisfort, Suffolk, England of the same age as the James Alfred Cooper. On the 1881 census, Laura was 18 and Alfred was 24.  They were already parents of Alice, age 2 and Frederick, 9 months.   I'm reworking, find that his father was John of Somerset, Chipstable, England and Mary Disney nee Curry of the same town, leading me down some other Disneys.  His father is also a John Disney and wife Elizabeth Paul, both of Somerset.  Now I've hit the brick wall in trying to find this John Disney's parents. I've found one more; Thomas.

This line needs to be going back also to Mechisodech Disnie,    I checked my 2 children who have had DNA testing at FTDNA.  They had DNA matches with many Cooper people but no Disney.  This makes me think that something was amiss with the Cooper causing them to adopt Disney as a surname. This was not the case.  As it turns out, because I had started the search many years ago, it's possible that Alfred James Disney hadn't been discovered yet by ancestry.com, or I just hadn't noticed it as yet in their files.  Instead, up came James Alfred Cooper, also of the same area in England.

Getting back to the wrong line I had chased, Elizabeth's father was William Disney, Sr. born in 1797 in Suffolk, England.  Her mother was Sarah Balls.  They had 8 children. Elizabeth was # 5.  William and his family were on the 1841 and 1851 English census.

William's father was Edward Disney III b: 1760 in Suffolk, England.  Here's another brick wall.  I had 3 Edward Disneys. This one was married to Sarah Douce.

Edward's father was also Edward Disney II b: 1717 in Suffolk, England.  He married Sarah Welham on June 3, 1746.  This had been an easier line to follow.  Too bad it's the wrong line.

Edward's father was another EDWARD DISNEY I, so I shall now label them as I, II and III. born 1689 in Suffolk, England.  He married  Elizabeth Lingwood.on March 4, 1714/15. Edward was their 3rd child.

Edward I's father was Mechisodech Disnie b: 1660 Suffolk, England  Both lines meet here with this person.  He was married to Mary Snowden.  Walt Disney also ended up with Mechisodech Disnie as well.  He had to have been the common ancestor of all the Disneys.  I've hit another brick wall.

The line goes from Alfred James Disney b: 1856 and wife Laura Victoria Whitehead back to John Disney 1827 and Mary Curry in Somerset Chipstable, England; to John Designy Disney 1799 and Elizabeth Paul, same place, to Thomas Designy  Disney 1771.  and Mary Vickery, both of Somerset.    Information has not been forthcoming.  This is the best I've been able to do far away from England, using the web.

Walt Elias Disney was born in 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. He married Lillian Marie Bounds on July 13, 1925.  They had 2 daughters, Diane and Sharon.  Walt died in Burbank, Hollywood, California.

Walt's father was Elias Charles Disney b: 1859 in Ontario, Canada.  He died in Hollywood, California.   He was married to Flora Call.

Elias's father was Kepple Elias Disney b: 1832 in Ireland.  He was married to Mary Jane Richardson.

Kepple's father was Arundel Elias Disney b: 1801 in Ireland.  He was married to Maria Swan.

Arundel's father was Kepple Disney b: 1776 in Ireland.  He was married to Frances Best.

Kepple's father was Robert Disney b: 1746 and mother was Mary Kepple.

Robert Disney's father was Richard Disney b: 1714.  He married Mary Bourdon.

Richard's father was EDWARD DISNEY, I b: 1689.  He was married to Elizabeth Lingwood.

EDWARD I's father was Mechisodech Disnie, born in 1660, in Suffolk, England.  He was married to Mary Snowden.

Some of the people I had wrongly discovered turned out to be on Walt Disney's line.
PS, Alfred James Disney was born on December 28, 1856
Alfred James Cooper was born on September 22, 1856.
Both were born in Battisfort, Suffolk, England.

Henwood, a Hamlet

Nadene Goldfoot
                                                HENWOOD, ENGLAND
"Henwood is a hamlet about 3.5 miles (5.6 km) south-west of Oxford, England. Henwood is in Wootton civil parish in the Vale of White Horse District.
Historically Henwood was a single farm in the parish of Cumnor, until Wootton was created a separate parish in the 19th century.[1] Since then there has been ribbon development along the B4017 road. Henwood was in Berkshire until the 1974 boundary changes transferred it to Oxfordshire.
Henwood Farmhouse dates back to the 17th century. It is a Grade II Listed Building."

It's possible that people from there took the name, Henwood, as their surname.  It could have started as a family group, then grew into a clan and tribe, taking in new male members who would have had different haplotypes.
The  DNA of the Y haplotype (group) will tell what the branch is of a male Henwood.  Our Henwood male tested as a R-L48.    This is the Western Atlantic Model Haplotype, otherwise known as WAMH.

Our Henwoods are mostly from Hampshire, England.

Time Line of Henwood in British Isles and World Population

Over 2,000 years ago in about 100 BCE, explorers and traders
from the Mediterraniean world wrote down the names of the people of these
NW islands as PRITANI - BRITANNI was how Romans pronounced it.
People in what is now the county of Hampshire were of the tribe of
ATREBATES.  This was in the late iron age.   They had connections with what is now, northern France.

Originally, the Atrebates were a powerful tribe from northern Gaul.
We think of Gaul as France, but  to the Romans, it
included present France, Belgium, Luxemburg and parts of the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany on the west bank of the Rhine, and the Po Valley, in present Italy.

Neanderthal Male
Neanderthals went extinct about 40,000 years ago.
Neanderthals and modern humans share 99.7% of their DNA  and are hence closely related.  Once, Great Britain was connected to Europe.
In Swanscombe, England (400,000 years ago): Between 1933 and 1955, amateur archaeologists discovered three separate pieces of the same female skull at a gravel quarry in Swanscombe. The skull is thought to be that of an early Neanderthal (although the skull’s age and species status have been questioned.) Less than an hour east of London, the Swanscombe site is now a historical park.  SW England held the oldest modern man, about 41,000
years old today.  It was in Kent's Cavern.

David Hume (1752) and Robert Wallace (1761) asked, "Was the growth of industry, urbanization and restructuring of social classes a good thing or not?  Was modernization a blessing or a curse?

Thomas Robert Malthus of Cambridge (1798) replied, "I think I may fairly make two postulata.
1. First, that food is  necessary to the existence of man.
2. Secondly, that the passion between the sexes is necessary, and will remain nearly in its present state.
I say, that the power of population is indefinitely greater than the power in the earth to produce subsistence for man.
Population, when unchecked, increases in geometric ratio.
Subsistence increases only in an arithmetical ratio.

He thought that an increase in food supply caused more people and more poverty.  He believed in abstinence but didn't want contraception.  He married at 39.
Poverty was caused by their own fault for not trying harder and welfare only kept the misery they suffered going.  He thought more suffering would encourage people to practice self discipline.

Obviously his theory was not accepted by anyone.  What really happened?
As the death rate dropped in Britain which was developing economically, the fertility rate declined within a generation or two.  In modern societies, people had fewer children.

Over 2,000 years ago, prosperous Romans adopted the same small family family structure.  Pliny in 23-79 CE then wrote:  "In our time people hold that an only son is already a heavy burden and that it is advantageous not to be overburdened with posterity.  There was Pliny the Elder and Pliny the Younger.  He must have been a handful.

I have been able to go back 14 generations to John Henwood b: 1538 d: 1591 at age 53 and wife Anne who had 7 children in Medstead, Hampshire, England.  Manor of Medstead was bought by Sir Richard Lyster in 1530.

Today, Medstead is a village and civil parish in the East Hampshire district of Hampshire, England. It is 4.3 miles (6.9 km) west-southwest of Alton. The village has a population of around 2,000 and adjoins the village of Four Marks. At over 700 feet above sea level, they are some of the highest villages in Hampshire. The village also has its own restored railway station on the Watercress Line, services from which connect with the nearest national rail station 4.3 miles (6.9 km) to the northeast, at Alton.

The origins of the ecclesiastical parish of Medstead can be traced back to the Saxon period and the granting of the Liberty of Alresford which covered the present-day ecclesiastical parishes of New Alresford, Old Alresford and Medstead. The Domesday Book of 1086 confirms the establishment of the Liberty's Mother Church, St. Mary the Virgin, Old Alresford. (Domesday Book is a manuscript record of the "Great Survey" of much of England and parts of Wales completed in 1086 by order of King William the Conqueror. Wikipedia)  In the Liberty of Alresford, St. Mary the Virgin had been established as the Mother Church at Old Alresford with chapelries of St. John the Baptist at New Alresford and St. Andrew at Medstead

Our male Henwood has been DNA tested and carried R1 b1a2 or now called R-M269.  It is the
Western Atlantic Model Haplotype.  A Jewish man was tested and also carries R-M269.

"Haplogroup R-M269, also known as R1b1a1a2, is a sub-clade of human Y-chromosome haplogroup R1b. It is of particular interest for the genetic history of Western Europe. It is defined by the presence of SNP marker M269. R-M269 has been the subject of intensive research; it was previously also known as R1b1a2 (2003 to 2005), R1b1c (2005 to 2008), and R1b1b2 (2008 to 2011)[3]
R-M269 is the most common European haplogroup, greatly increasing in frequency on an east to west gradient (its prevalence in Poland estimated at 22.7%, compared to Wales at 92.3%). It is carried by approximately 110 million European men (2010 estimate).[4] The age of the mutation M269 is estimated at roughly 4,000 to 10,000 years ago, making it likely that the haplogroup originates in the European Neolithic, and its sub-clades can be used to trace the migrations associated with the Neolithic expansion."
"The larger Haplogroup R1b (Y-DNA) is dominant in Western Europe, not only Britain and Ireland. While it was once seen as a lineage connecting the British Isles to Iberia (where it is also common), opinions concerning its origins have changed. It is now known R1b and R1a entered Europe with Indo-European migrants likely originating around the Black Sea."
The Mt haplotype (47% of Europe, 44.7% England, 44.1% in Ireland and Scotland; 59.8% in Wales) handed down from mother to son and daughter most common in Europe is ", originating in France.
  • Haplogroup H (mtDNA) Helena (Sykes), Helina (Oppenheimer). Almost half of Europe carries this.
  • Sykes found that the maternal clan (haplogroup) pattern was similar throughout England but with a definite trend from east and north to the south and west. The minor clans are mainly found in the east of England. Sykes found Haplogroup H to be dominant in Ireland and Wales. A few differences were found between North, Mid and South Wales. There was a closer link between North and Mid Wales than either had with the South.
Sykes found that 10% of the Irish population were in Haplogroup U5 called Ursula. He calculated a date of 7,300 BC for the entry of this lineage into Ireland. Similar dates were proposed for the other mitochondrial haplogroups, implying that mitochondrial lines in Ireland are far older there than the arrival of Iron Age Celts. Little difference was found between the maternal clans in the four provinces.

Hampshire and the First Henwood, A Saxon; History and Ydna

Nadene Goldfoot
There are about 8,546 people in the world bearing Henwood as a surname.  They are living in England, the USA, Canada, South Africa and Australia

Could it be that the first Henwood was Hengist, a Saxon?  Saxons came from Saxony in NW Germany who had settled in southern England where I found Henwood ancestors in Hampshire.  The tribe of the ATREBATES had lived in Hampshire.  "This was a British Celtic tribe occupying modern Berkshire and Hampshire, along with areas of West Sussex, western Surrey, and north-east Wiltshire." "Closely related to the north-western Gaulish tribe of Atrebates, they were at their most powerful in the first and second centuries BC. The name Atrebates means 'settlers' or 'inhabitants.'"

The Saxons' entrance happened in or just after 410 AD.  What had happened was was a leader of the British at that time, Vortigern,  invited the Saxon Hengist to protect him against some Picts of Scotland who were attacking him. "Hengist (or Hengest) and Horsa (or Hors) are figures of Anglo-Saxon history, which records the two as the Germanic brothers who led the Angle, Saxon, Frisian, and Jutish armies that conquered the first territories of Britain in the 5th century. Tradition lists Hengist (through his son, whose name varies by source) as the founder of the Kingdom of Kent.  The shingle beaches of Kent have yielded to the keels of Saxon warships.

Vortigern was a treacherous tribal chieftain.  After the death of the rightful king, Constantine, Vortigern  needed to protect himself against a coming war, so had recruited this outside help.  He sighted the 3 ships in the Channel that were manned by the Saxon leader, Hengist who had been sent to seek settlements of their own.  Their homeland was no longer able to support them.  This happened at least once every 7 years.  They were promised land on which to settle for their military support and they would in return also get part of Lincolnshire, but then Vortigern wanted Hengist's daughter, Rowena in marriage.  In return he would give Hengist the earldom of Kent.  The Earl of Kent of course was not happy to hear about this!

The Britons were so angry when they heard about this offer that they made Vortimer, Vortigern's son from his 1st wife,  their king and expelled the Saxons from the shores.  Rowena was so angry that she ordered Vortimer to be poisoned and Vortigern is made king once more.  Hengist calls together many British earls and barons under Vortigern's patronage to  plan a peaceful blending into their societies  of his Saxons in Britain.

Everyone came unarmed.  Hengist  was treacherous and had his men carry a long knife hidden in their clothing.  At his signal,  the Saxons pulled out their knives and killed the Briton standing next to him.  Vortigern is banished by the Saxons to Wales and they took possession of England.   This is considered mythology and not accurate history of how the Saxons arrived and was completely transformed in later centuries.  .

The monk, Gildas, was a recorder of history in about 540 with his "THE RUIN OF BRITAIN" and wrote, still showing hatred of Saxons, "To hold back the northern peoples, they introducted into the island the vile unspeakable Saxons, hated of God and man alike....of their own free will, they invited in under the same roof the enemy they feared worse than death."

Much later,  the West Saxons of Wessex , in a division of the southern part of Britain, divided southern
Britain into Hampshire, Wiltshire and Dorset.

The Saxons were different from the "barbarians" who finally defeated the Roman Empire within Europe.  The Saxons came from well outside the frontiers of the Empire and had completely different customs and social organizations to emphasize kinship and loyalty to relatives.  Their Gods were Norse ones; Tiw, Woden, Thor, Freya and are remembered in our days of the week-Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.  They are also remembered in English place-names such as Tuesley in Surrey and Wednesbury in Staffordshire.

The Brits showed a strong resistance to the Saxons which culminated in the British victory around AD500  at Mons Badonicus where Geoffrey had King Arthur lead the Brits.  The Saxons moved north and were successful in taking land.Cornwall, where another branch of Henwood have been from, resisted the Saxons until the beginning of the 9th century, so it should be possible that the Henwood line was younger there than in southern England.

The language of English gets nothing from its Celtic roots but almost everything to its Germanic roots.  The Celtic language was replaced by English because the English Celts were simply wiped out or driven to the hills according to Bryan Sykes, researcher of DNA.

Saxons were then fighting against the Danes who had invaded and went on endlessly when King Aethelred ordered a massacre of all Danes in England in 1002.  It was an impossible task in those days but caused hysteria and violence.  The Danes living in Oxford, took refuge in a church which the citizens burned down, causing all the deaths.  The King of Denmark, Sweyn,  intervened at this attempted ethnic cleansing,  so then invaded England in 1013.  His son, Canute or Cnut, crushed the Saxon resistance in 1016 and became King of England!   He had to divide his time between Denmark and England.  Cnut died in 1035 and his son Harold took over for a few years until his death when his brother Harthacnut reined for 2 years before dying in 1042.  Then the Saxon king, Edward the Confessor, was king.  On October 14, 1066, King Harold's Saxon army were attacked by William, Duke of Normandy and his  heavy cavalry. This was the famous Norman Conquest.   Harold was killed by an arrow.  His men did not surrender but fought to the death and were all killed.  William had been given a claim to the English throne by Edward who had no children and had promised it to William.

After the Norman Conquest of 1066, estates had insisted that men adopt surnames.
The reason given was so they could be told apart and that inheritance of land tenancies from father to son could be properly controlled.  By the end of the 13th century, the practice had spread throughout the land, and practically everyone in England had a forename and a surname.

"The surname Hen was first found in Sussex where the family held a family seat before the Norman Conquest of 1066.  The first Hen family lived in the parish of Heene, part of Worthing in the county of Sussex.  it could also be from HENRY.    "It's an English name, a habitational name from any of various places so named, as for example Henwood in Cornwall, in Linkinhorne parish, which is named from Old English henn ‘hen’, ‘wild bird’ + wudu ‘wood’, or Hen Wood in Wootton, Oxfordshire (formerly in Berkshire), which is named from Old English hiwan ‘religious community’ (genitive plural higna) + wudu.

The Ydna haplotype of our Henwood  whose grandfather was Charles Ernest Henwood of Hampshire is R1b1a2 or R=(M 269), now called R-L48.  It is the Western Atlantic Model Haplotype WAMH.  The farthest we have gone tracing the ancestor is  to John Henwood of 1538 in Medstead, Hampshire, England..

R1b1a2 Haplogroup's Website and History of Origins

Nadene Goldfoot

I found a great website about the Henwood's haplogroup of R1b1a2a1a1a4 or L48.

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Haplogroup-R1b1a2a1a1a4/118775754860764

On this page is the information about the origins and how it came into England in about the 5th century.

                         Haplogroup R1B1A2 & Haplogroup I

The Iberian Peninsula, which consists of modern day Spain and Portugal, has been colonized and ruled by several tribal powers throughout history. The identity of the ancient Iberians is unknown; however it is known that the Celts who came later merged with them, to form the Celtiberians. The Atlantic Modal Haplotype, the most common haplotype in Western Europe is a part of R1B1A2 and it has Celtic and Germanic variations. A Celtic origin is most likely for individuals of Spanish lineage who are members of Haplogroup R1B1A2. In the year 409, the weakening of the Roman Empire's power in Iberia resulted in a power vacuum throughout the peninsula. That same year, Germanic Suevi,Vandals, and Sarmatian Alans followed shortly after by the Visigoths established kingdoms throughout Iberia. These Germanic tribes brought with them Haplogroup I as well as Germanic variants of haplogroup R1B1A2. These Germanic Kingdoms were taken over by the Moors in the 8th century, but were reestablished in the 13th century during the Reconquista, setting the stage for the Spanish speaking, Christian Spain we know today.
In the early 11th century the establishment of the very prominent Narbonne Talmudic Academy in France resulted in increased Jewish educational opportunities for the Jews of France and Spain. Some researchers propose that during the height of the academy’s prominence, many non-Jews from France and Spain were attracted to the famous school and underwent conversions to Judaism, thus introducing haplogroups R1B1A2 and I into the Jewish gene pool. Even non-Jews who had not attended the academy may have been enticed to convert. In Spain, some estimates hold that Jews comprised 10-20 percent of the total population. This is a very high percentage considering that historically Jews have been known to make up about 1% of the world's population. Jews were very successful in business and reached very high positions in Spanish society, to the point that many not only held titles of nobility and were employed frequently by the crown, but some researchers believe some Jews even married into the royal family.
The Jews' prominence in Spain prior to the Inquisition may have made conversion to Judaism more attractive and accessible, thus creating yet another opportunity for haplogroup R1B1A2 and haplogroup I to be introduced into the Jewish gene pool. Pogroms in Spain, may also account for the introduction of some Western European DNA among Sephardic Jews, although pogroms were not so common in Spain, nor as severe as they were in Eastern Europe. These origins are highly speculative and research is currently underway to confirm these theories, however these haplogroups are present in most Sephardic and Ashkenazic communities in small percentages. These haplogroups have even been found among Sephardic Jews whose ancestors migrated to the Ottoman Empire in the fifteenth century and have not been to Europe since. Therefore Jewish ancestry cannot be discounted because of a match with a Western European haplogroup. A member of this project with tradition of Jewish ancestry on his paternal line and is a member of these haplogroups may have direct descent from a convert to Judaism. Since converts may marry born Jews, indirect Jewish ancestry on other lines is possible and testing of other family members may be necessary. Sephardic Jews, but more often Spaniards and other Europeans brought these lineages with them to the Dominican Republic from Europe.
I remember finding a Hen  listed in "Finding Our Fathers:  A guidebook to Jewish Genealogy by Dan Rottenberg.  It said:  Related to Gracian.  , and there on page 230 it says : also Gracia, Graciano--a prominent Spanish family descended from Judah ben Barzilai.  Members lived chidfly at Barcelona from the 13th through 16th centuries.  Most used the name HEN.   Jewish Encyclopedia has 14 biographies.  Related to Nasi and Trabot.
My mother's father's DNA is also R1b1a2 and being it has been tested at the 67 allele level also has the extra ending of a1a1b4.   This is for the surname of Robinson.  They seem to have more matches with Ireland which was not a part of our oral history. Charles Henwood was a recent immigrant to the state of Washington and was born in England.   We know that Henwood did come from England for sure back to the 16th century at least.  As for the 13th century?  Perhaps!  .

Henwood DNA Test Upgrade Order Today

Nadene Goldfoot
I have found one person who matches the 12 allele test that this Henwood has taken, and the match has taken the 37 allele test, so I broke down and upgraded our test.  This perfect match may soon change  in closeness as in chatting with them, their ancestors had left Hampshire, England and had moved over to the new America quite early on, whereas this line of ours had only recently immigrated from England.

According to our tip report, we should have a common ancestor 12 generations back or 300 years  to 1711, with a 70.69% chance, which would take this line back to John Henwood (1713-1786 born in Shalden Village, Hampshire, England and who died in Wield, Hampshire, England.  He was married to Elizabeth "Betty" Bennet.  Otherwise, we could find a connection with 94.30% chance back 24 generations probably to 1411.  We only know that our tree stops in 1538 with another John Henwood.  I guess King John was quite popular in those days.  There were lots of Johns.

Update 12/12/11 Our upgrade is scheduled to be ready by 1/25/12.  I hope it will come through sooner.
Update: 1/23/12  i just checked and due to high volume being tested, our will not be ready till 2/13/12/  I can't wait to see it.
Update: 2/2/12: The test came in today.  R1b1a2 (M269)

Modern Man in Europe 42,000 to 44,000 Years Ago

Homo Sapiens, our modern man, have been found to immigrate to the continent of Europe 42,000 to 44,000 years ago.   Italy has produced informationfrom tiny teeth found in a cave that had originally been thought to belong to Neanderthals.  A cave in England produced a jawbone  of a homo sapiens with the age of  41,500 to 44,200 years.

Neanderthal became extinct only 30,000 years ago, showing that the two types lived together at the time time.  Recent genome work found interbreeding that had taken place in the Middle East.

John Henwood Marriage of 1560 and 1629 in Hampshire, England

John Henwood married Mary Martin on April 23, 1629 in Kingsclere, Hampshire, England.  This was found on ancestry.com marriages of England and Wales.  I just hope I've picked the right John.

I found John Henwood marrying Joane Langsard on May 27, 1633 but in St. Mary, Battersea, Surrey, England.  Surrey is next door to Hampshire, so it's possible it's even the same man.

Then I found John Hynwod who married Margaret Myllet on September 22, 1560 in Kingsclere, Hampshire, England.

How Many English Ancestors?

1066 is the time of the Norman Conquest. There were 1.11 million people living in England at that time. People living in England today can find ancestors in 86% of them.

1215 found 2.5 million people living in England. Today's English population can find ancestors from 1300's English population.

Go back 10 generations or 250 years to the year 1760 AD and you should have 1,024 ancestors!
What you have done is that you have 2 parents making 4 grandparents, and the number keeps doubling.

This all proves that people were marrying their cousins because the tree gets smaller the more you go back in history. We are cousins with just about everyone. The reason is that if you go back 30 generations or 750 years to the year 1260 AD, you would have 4,356,616 ancestors and that's more than the population at that time, even if everyone were marrying 2nd cousins. So there has been a lot of inbreeding among families in the past. We knew that Egyptian royalty practiced this, and the Bible shows that our forefathers were marrying cousins then, but I hadn't realized it went on in later history.

I'm lucky to have found a great genealogist living in England who has taken our shared family tree line back to John Henwood born in 1538 in Medstead, Hampshire, England. Most every male on the tree has come from Hampshire. Another line of Henwoods come from Cornwall from the village, Henwood. We went back 13 generations or rather 13 male fathers to get there. I went from Charles, Charles, Henry, Henry, John, John, John, Robert, William, William, William, Guy, and then John. I'm skipping the 3 live Henwoods in the count, which would really make 16 generations.
